This five year study investigated the relationship of cholesterol levels with mortality rates in 92 women aged 60 years and over (average age 82) living in a nursing home and free from cancer.
The study found:
(a) Those with cholesterol values of 7·0 mmol/l lived the longest
(b) Those with cholesterol values of 8.8 mmol/l lived almost as long
(c) Those with cholesterol values of 4.0 mmol/l died the earilest
The results of this study show that women with high cholesterol levels live longer than women with low cholesterol levels.
